Dr. Rainer Hable

Biography
Dr. Rainer Hable is a constitutional lawyer and litigator admitted to the Vienna Bar. His practice focuses on European Union Law, in particular litigating EU Law before Member State Courts and the Union Courts in Luxembourg.
Previous Experience
Previously, Rainer Hable was a Member of the Austrian Parliament (NEOS). In this capacity, he sat on the National Security Council and, as a group spokesperson, on the Parliamentary Committees for European Union Affairs, Defense, Budget, and Finance. He also served as a parliamentary group leader on the Hypo-Alpe-Adria-Bank Inquiry Committee, the longest-running investigation undertaken in Parliament’s history. He was also the founder and first chairman of NEOS Upper Austria.
Before entering politics, Dr. Hable worked for international law firms and clerked at the Higher Regional Court of Vienna. In London, he taught public finance and economics at the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE) and served as a financial policy advisor at the UK Department for Transport. In Brussels, he was a blue-book-stagiaire at the General Secretariat of the EU Commission. At Johannes-Kepler-Universität Linz, he researched on public finances in a federal system and advised the Upper Austrian State Government.
University
Rainer Hable studied business, economics, and law (Mag. iur.) at Universität Linz. He continued his economic studies at the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE) graduating with a major in public finance (M.Sc. Public Financial Policy). He wrote his doctoral dissertation (Dr. iur.) at the Institute of Constitutional Law and Political Science of Universität Linz.
Military
After graduating from a Gymnasium (grammar school) for modern languages in Linz, Rainer Hable served as a one-year volunteer in the Austrian Armed Forces. He is still active as a reserve officer. After almost 30 years in commanding functions with the infantry, he now serves in the military diplomatic service of the Department of Defence.
